French Riviera Open 2026: Schröder, De Groot and Fernandez crowned champions in Biot

Sam Schröder, Diede de Groot and Gustavo Fernandez are the three singles champions of the French Riviera Open 2026. The Dutchman controlled his final against Ahmet Kaplan, while De Groot claimed a sixth consecutive title – and her seventh overall in Biot – to return to world No.1 on Monday. In the men’s draw, Gustavo Fernandez lifted his third French Riviera Open trophy after defeating Martin de la Puente in a closely contested final.

Sam Schröder in control from start to finish

Sam Schröder is once again a French Riviera Open champion.

Facing Turkey’s Ahmet Kaplan, the Dutchman controlled the final from start to finish to secure a 6-4, 6-1 victory.

The opening set proved the more competitive of the two, but Schröder remained in control at the key moments before taking a decisive grip on the match in the second.

Having already claimed the doubles title on Friday alongside young Australian Jin Woodman, Schröder leaves Biot with two trophies, completing a perfect week at the Mouratoglou Academy.

Seventh title in Biot for Diede de Groot

Six in a row. Seven in total.

Diede de Groot once again imposed her authority at the French Riviera Open, defeating Luoyao Guo 6-2, 6-2 in the women’s singles final.

The Chinese player was competing in the first WC1000 final of her career and boldly took her chances against the Dutchwoman. But De Groot was able to impose her game and maintain control of the contest to complete the victory in straight sets.

The win gives her a seventh French Riviera Open title, including six consecutive victories.

And there was even more at stake than another trophy in Biot: as a result of her victory, Diede de Groot will return to world No.1 on Monday.

It was nevertheless an outstanding week for Luoyao Guo, who reached a final at this level for the first time and leaves Biot with the women’s doubles title she won on Saturday alongside France’s Ksénia Chasteau.

Gustavo Fernandez claims his third French Riviera Open title

The men’s final proved to be the closest contest of the day.

Against Martin de la Puente, Gustavo Fernandez had to battle through a fiercely contested opening set. The pair went all the way to a tie-break, where the Argentinian found the edge before carrying that advantage into the second set.

Fernandez prevailed 7-6, 6-3, proving particularly decisive on the points that mattered most.

The victory gives the Argentinian his third French Riviera Open singles title and further strengthens his impressive record in Biot.

For Martin de la Puente, however, the trophy once again remained just out of reach at the final hurdle – something the two players were able to laugh about after the match.

When the Spaniard asked Fernandez whether he was ever going to let him win here, the Argentinian had a ready-made answer: “It’s revenge for the World Cup final.”

A light-hearted exchange between two players who know each other extremely well, and a fitting way to close a hard-fought final.

Three champions bring the 10th edition to a close

With the victories of Sam Schröder, Diede de Groot and Gustavo Fernandez, the French Riviera Open brings its 10th edition to a close following one final day of world-class wheelchair tennis at the Mouratoglou Academy.

Schröder leaves Biot with the singles and doubles double. De Groot adds a seventh French Riviera Open title to her collection and returns to the top of the world rankings. Fernandez, who had already lifted the men’s doubles trophy alongside Gordon Reid on Saturday, also completes the double and takes his tally of singles titles in Biot to three.

Three champions, but also a week that produced new stories: Luoyao Guo’s first WC1000 singles final, Ksénia Chasteau’s first title at this level in the doubles, and Andrew Bogdanov’s surprise run to the Quad semi-finals.

The curtain therefore falls on the 10th edition of the French Riviera Open, after another week bringing some of the world’s best wheelchair tennis players together in Biot.
