TOKITO ODA, THE RISING STAR.

Biot, June 11, 2023

Only 33 days after he turned 17, Tokito Oda (JAP, No.2) has won the French Open, his first Grand Slam title, becoming world #1 as of this Monday to his opponent of the day, Alfie Hewett. He also became the youngest Grand Slam winner in the Open era, following in the footsteps of his illustrious compatriot Shingo Kunieda, who retired five months ago.

Alfie Hewett, three-time French Open title-holder, could do nothing to counter the phenomenal rise of Tokito Oda, who, by his own admission, has not changed much about his game since losing the Australian Open final to Hewett: “The only thing I’ve changed is that I hit my shots faster than Alfie.”
