A few days after his 1st Grand Slam title at Roland Garros, Guy SASSON won his 1st French Riviera Open in an unprecedented final against 22-year-old Turkish Ahmet KAPLAN (6-3 6-2).
In doubles, Kaplan and Australian Heath DAVIDSON lost the final to Niels VINK and Andy LAPTHORNE in a super tie-break.
On the women’s side, Diede DE GROOT won her 5th title here at the French Riviera Open. After a hard-fought French Open and a three-set victory over China’s Zhenzhen ZHU, the Dutchwoman had a calmer week, ending with a final win over Yui KAMIJI 7-5 6-4.
She completed the double with her partner Aniek VAN KOOT, beating the Chinese pair Xiaohui LI and Zhenzhen ZHU 6-2 6-3.
On the men’s side, Japanese nugget Tokito ODA took command of the men’s circuit at the expense of Great Britain’s Alfie HEWETT. He won his first French Riviera Open 7-5 6-3 and, just a few days after winning the French Open for the second time, became world No. 1 again.
In the doubles, in a 100% Dutch duel, the experienced Tom EGBERINK and Maikel SCHEFFERS beat the young Ruben SPAARGAREN and Maarten TER HOFTE 6-1 6-4.
