DE GROOT, VINK & FERNANDEZ: CHAMPIONS!
It’s a wrap for the French Riviera Open 2023.
The doubles champions were decided yesterday with the victory of the Niels Vink – Sam Schröder pair in the Quads doubles, who got the better of Heath Davidson and Robert Shaw 7-6 6-3.
In the ladies’ category, No.1 seeds Jiske Griffioen and Diede De Groot lost out to KG Montjane and Yui Kamiji 7-5 1-6 10-5.
And on the men’s side, the title went to Stéphane Houdet and Tom Egberink, who pulled off a minor upset by defeating Joachim Gérard and Tokito Oda 6-3 4-6 10-7.
Today, in singles, Niels Vink regained his crown in the Quads draw, beating Guy Sasson 7-6 6-2.
Unfortunately, with an arm injury, Yui Kamiji could not defend her chances in the women’s final, leaving the title to Diede De Groot.
But the battle was on in a men’s final that went down to the final points, but Gustavo Fernandez prevailed over Martin de la Puente 6-2 6-7 7-6.
See you next year for more wheelchair tennis at the Mouratoglou Academy.
