FRENCH RIVIERA OPEN: FINALS SET AFTER A DRAMATIC DAY AT THE MOURATOGLOU ACADEMY

Biot, 3 October 2025

Day 4 of the French Riviera Open 2025 delivered high drama and world-class wheelchair tennis at the Mouratoglou Academy, as the semi-final and final line-ups were decided across all draws. From dominant displays to nail-biting thrillers, the stage is now set for a spectacular finals weekend.

Quad singles: the young star and the surprise package

Top seeds wasted no time booking their spots in the semi-finals. World No.2 Sam Schröder powered past Brazil’s Ymanitu Silva in just 35 minutes, recording a flawless 6-0 6-0 win. Israel’s Guy Sasson was equally ruthless, dispatching Australia’s Benjamin Wenzel 6-0 6-1.
The rising sensation Jin Woodman of Australia continued his dream run with another composed performance, defeating Britain’s Greg Slade 6-1 6-4 to reach his first Super Series semi-final.
But the upset of the day came from Chile’s Francisco Cayulef, who stunned Britain’s Andy Lapthorne in a fiercely contested battle, 6-4 6-7 6-3.

Women’s singles: Dutch dominance continues

The women’s draw saw two thrilling semi-finals unfolding almost simultaneously. Aniek Van Koot edged compatriot Jiske Griffioen in a gripping three-set encounter, holding her nerve in a dramatic deciding tie-break to win 6-3 5-7 7-6.
On court 3, defending champion Diede De Groot faced former world No.1 Yui Kamiji. After splitting the first two sets, De Groot raised her level in emphatic style, overpowering Kamiji 6-2 4-6 6-0. The Dutch superstar now advances to yet another French Riviera Open final, chasing back-to-back titles.

Houdet marches on to another final

France’s Stéphane Houdet, a triple Paralympic champion and the last Frenchman standing in singles, showed once again that his hunger for titles remains intact. With his trademark competitiveness and composure, Houdet overcame the Netherlands’ Ruben Spaargaren 6-3 6-4 to secure his place in Sunday’s final – where he will aim for a remarkable 57th career singles title.
Waiting for him is Argentina’s Gustavo Fernandez, who defeated Japan’s Takuya Miki 7-5 6-2 to keep alive his own quest for a 70th singles crown.

Doubles finalists decided

In women’s doubles, the Dutch pair Jiske Griffioen / Diede De Groot held off Manami Tanaka / Aniek Van Koot in a tense match tie-break. They will face Yui Kamiji / Zhenzhen Zhu, who ended French hopes by defeating 19-year-old Ksénia Chasteau and Colombia’s Angelica Bernal.
In the men’s doubles, home favourite Stéphane Houdet, partnered with Spain’s Daniel Caverzaschi, booked his second final of the week by beating Britain’s Ben Bartram / Daniel Rodrigues 6-4 6-3. They will take on the formidable duo of Martin De La Puente / Ruben Spaargaren, who stopped the French team of Geoffrey Jasiak / Gaëtan Menguy.
